Working with partners on climate action and improving the air quality in school playgrounds
Green Barriers
Air quality is a major national problem and even in a ‘green city’ like Sheffield there are high levels of pollutants caused by road transport and industry.
In partnership with Hunters Bar school and the University of Sheffield SBT businesses helped erect a 60 metre living green barrier in the playground at the school to block and absorb trafic pollution.
The Green Barrier has led to other benefits for the school, providing an outdoor learning area and sensory garden that SEN pupils particularly love, increased enivronmental/sustainability awareness for the kids and an outdoor teaching area.
SBT are committed to establishing more Green Barriers and are working with Sheffield Council to identify a priority list of schools.
The South Yorkshire Sustainability Consortium
The South Yorkshire Sustainability Consortium was established to help businesses with their sustainability and net zero journey. They hold quarerly events, bringing businesses of all sizes together to discus challenges, share good practice, learning and support each other.
