Supporting DEC to Raise Vital Funds for Turkey-Syria Earthquakes

Hi Everyone,

We hope you are well.

You have probably seen the horrendous earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria last week and the level of support which is currently needed. Our partners at Business in The community have released information on how you and/or your organisation can support these countries.
Business in the Community is supporting the Disaster Emergency Committee’s (DEC) Turkey-Syria Appeal, which is raising vital funds to support the people of Türkiye and Syria following a series of devastating earthquakes in southern Türkiye and north-west Syria.

Thousands of people have been killed, with many more injured and people living in the regions have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions. DEC charities and their local partners are responding on the ground, working with locally led relief efforts, to provide medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heaters for spaces and winter kits with blankets, and warm clothes, and ensuring people have food and clean water.

The most urgent items needed include:
Medical care
Emergency shelterWinter kits
FoodClean water
Sanitation and hygiene

For as little as £10, DEC can provide people with vital items including:
£10 could provide blankets for two people
£25 could provide [emergency] food for a family for 10 days
£50 could provide emergency shelter for two families

Hannah Tankard, Partnerships Director at Business in the Community, said:
“The devastating earthquakes in Turkey-Syria have left thousands of people in need of vital supplies, and the DEC appeal will ensure that those who need help get it. As little as £10 could help buy blankets to keep people warm as they are dealing with freezing conditions. We are highlighting to our responsible business members that they can provide much-needed funds to DEC so that they can support people in Turkey and Syria at this devastating time.”
