Reconnected: Support a Child Who Has Been Excluded

Excluded young people are the most vulnerable in society. Just 1 in 2 progress to sustained destinations at age 16; young people in gangs are six times more likely to have been excluded compared to other young people assessed by children’s services; and one in two adult prisoners have been excluded from school.

From Autumn 2022 ReconnectEd and Brigantia will work together to recruit and upskill local people as coaches to understand the issues facing young people and build trusted relationships with them and their families/carers. The coaches will go to Yewlands Academy and Mansel Primary School every day for three years to help the targeted young people have better self-regulation and well-being.

They are also looking for in-kind gifts which the coaches can use with the young people and their families to build rapport. This could be in the form of vouchers for a meal out, discounts for items that the young people can use i.e. to buy a bicycle.

As a small team they are also interested in pro-bono expertise, particularly in the area of PR/marketing would be appreciated. If you feel as though this is something you can support please email: ah@reconnecteducation.co.uk

Help Needed to Fund Breakfast Club for Disadvantaged Students at Newfield School Newfield would love help from local businesses to fund their breakfast club. Serving their local community which includes the Gleadless Valley. Over 400 students at Newfield are disadvantaged financially, meaning that the current cost of living crisis is having a hugely detrimental impact on our students as parents struggle to put food on the table.

They would love for all of our children from families who are struggling to be able to access a healthy breakfast at school each morning. We agree with their thinking that this a basic right – it will help them to be set up in the right way for a day of learning.  Due to financial barriers, they require support to achieve this. They will require a substantial donation to allow us to do this for a year. We are seeking donations to help us reach our £5,000 target. Please contact dlee@newfield.sheffield.sch.uk to contribute. Thank you from all our disadvantaged students.
